About

I earned both my Bachelor's and Master's Degrees from the University of Washington. I've been teaching for 20+ years, and working as an admissions consultant/editor for 13 years. My articles and essays have been published online and in print in Canada, the United States, Europe and Japan.

My admissions-related work gives me great satisfaction--I love guiding applicants as they pull a collection of seemingly random ideas into a well-rounded, insightful application package. Many of my clients have told me that working with me is "like therapy" (and in some cases, "better than therapy"!)--I think (and certainly hope) that this is a good thing!

The most wonderful testimonials I've ever received came from two memorable clients--one who told me that "Stanford was the Mt. Everest of applications... and you were my sherpa!" and the other who called me the "Jerry Maguire" of his writing process. Both of these comments capture exactly what I hope people gain from working with me--a tireless guide, supporter, and cheerleader, always ready to offer encouragement, but always ready to push harder when necessary, too.

If you'd like to know more about how I can guide you through the long and arduous admissions journey, please contact me at sonia.michaels@gmail.com  or 206-395-8866. Let's talk!
